The Peaks and Professionals series returns! For this iteration of the series we have the honor of being joined by writer Shawnte Salabert on an overnight wildflower-chasing and slot canyon ‘splorin excursion to Anza-Borrego State Park. Ever thought about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)? Well, Shawnte literally wrote the book on the PCT, Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail: Southern California, published by Mountaineers Books in 2017. Her other writings include publications in The California Sunday Magazine, Outside, Los Angeles Magazine, Alpinist, Adventure Journal, Modern Hiker, SNEWS, REI Co-op Journal, Land+People, and Backpacker.

Anza-Borrego is famous for its spring wildflower blooms following rainy winters, so we’ll be heading to the desert park at the right time!
