Enjoy a beautiful hike on Musch Trail to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park! Professor Sarah Bottjer will be joining us as we complete this 4.5 mile loop with ocean views from chaparral-covered ridges and shaded oak groves. We’ll also be stopping at the scenic Eagle Rock (pictured above). On the way down we might be able to see some fire damage from earlier this year.

PROFESSOR: Sarah Bottjer
DEPARTMENT: Biological Sciences/Psychology
Professor Sarah Bottjer is a professor in the Biological Sciences department as well as the Psychology department. Her research focuses on vocal learning in songbirds as a model system for understanding the basic mechanisms of neural development, learning and memory. Feel free to ask her about this research on the trip or about her favorite baseball team: the Dodgers.
PEAK: Musch Trail to Eagle Rock
DIFFICULTY: 3/5 (4.4 miles, 1000 feet elevation)
SCENERY: Lots of birds, bunnies, and wildflowers! The way up will be shaded forest and the way down might have an ocean view.
FUN FACT: The City of LA paid $700,000 to purchase Eagle Rock from a developer who wanted to build an apartment complex on it.
