The Bridge to Nowhere is a beautiful 9.5-mile hike in the San Gabriel Mountains with multiple river crossings and swimming pools at the end. Not only is the bridge a fun destination for hikers, but there are also bungee jumpers! The Bridge to Nowhere is an iconic sight in Southern California, so get excited for a fantastic hike!

PACKING LIST:

  • Day pack

  • Lots of water

  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat

  • Lunch/snacks

  • Sturdy shoes

  • Waivers

NOTE: Prepare to get wet while hiking! The trail crosses the San Gabriel River several times throughout the hike and the water can be up to knee-deep.

DEPARTMENT: EARTH SCIENCES

Professor Vidale is a seismologist studying earthquakes, Earth structure, volcanoes, and the hazards of strong shaking. In addition to being a professor of Earth Sciences at USC, he has previously been the director of the Southern California Earthquake Center, the Director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the Washington State Seismologist, and interim director of the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics.

SCENERY: River crossings, beautiful pools for swimming, and the famous Bridge to Nowhere!

FUN FACT: The Bridge to Nowhere was originally built as a link in a road between the San Gabriel Valley and Wrightwood but after a flood washed away the rest of the road, the bridge was left isolated in the mountains.
