Join Dr. Rita Barakat on a one-of-a-kind birding trip to the Sepulveda Reserve! This will be a pleasant stroll around the reserve’s lake, where we will look (and listen) for a wide variety of birds that live in or pass through the Los Angeles Basin. Dr. B is an avid birder and will be helping us observe what the area has to offer!

PROFESSOR: Rita Barakat

DEPARTMENT: Biological Sciences

Rita Barakat (she/ her) is a Lecturer in the department of Biological Sciences (Neurobiology) section at USC. She currently teaches undergraduate general education courses (BISC-104: Human Anatomy and Physiology and BISC-230: Introduction to Neuroscience), as well as life science majors courses (BISC-421: Neurobiology) and graduate-level courses (NSCI-524: Advanced Topics in Neuroscience I). Dr. Barakat received her Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UC Berkeley in 2015, and her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience from USC in 2022. Her research interests include studying the behavioral and neuroanatomical underpinnings of language in humans, as well as the relationship between language and executive functioning. In her free time, Dr. Barakat enjoys singing and birding, and you can catch her performing with Thornton ensembles including the University Chorus!
