[SPS x Peaks] Anza Borrego Stargazing w/ Vahe Peroomian

Priority will be given to members of SPS. Regular Sign Ups will occur at 10PM

Join the Society of Physics Students and Professor Vahe Peroomian for a day in Anza Borrego State Park. Explore the desert scenery, hike and scramble around 5 miles through slot canyons, see the amazing metal sculptures of Galleta Meadows, and conclude the day with some stargazing! We’ll camp overnight in the park before heading back home Sunday morning.

We will meet Saturday morning, so please eat breakfast beforehand and bring a packed lunch. We’ll eat lunch at the trailhead and in the evening eat dinner (provided). Breakfast the next morning will also be provided.

PACKING LIST:

  • Water!!

  • Comfortable hiking/tennis shoes

  • Packed lunch + any snacks you want

  • Hat and sunscreen

  • Layers— can get cold at night!

  • WAIVERS

WE WILL PROVIDE

  • Sleeping Bag/Pad (if you don’t have)

  • Tents

  • Dinner/breakfast

  • Telescopes



PROFESSOR: Vahe Peroomian

Professor Peroomian teaches both Physics and Astronomy at USC, including Thematic Option courses. When he’s not busy teaching or studying geomagnetic storms, Professor Peroomian is an avid photographer and hiker. You can check out some of his work here!

FUN FACT: Slot canyons are smooth-walled crevices formed by flowing water eroding rock over millions of years!
