Ever been outside and seen some weird rock structures and wondered how they formed? Have any pressing geology questions? Join us on a hike in Red Rock Canyon Park with our very own in-house Geology expert, Doug Hammond! We'll start by exploring some small caves. Then we'll hike through some giant Red Rock formations, all the way up to the top of Calabasas Peak, which offers sweeping views of the Santa Monica Mountains. There's lots of geology to see in Red rock canyon park & we'll even get to see some fossils!
Dr. Doug Hammond has both a M.S. and a Ph.D in Geology and is Ocean Sciences Program Direct here at USC. Dr. Hammond has also done field work in the Adriatic Sea, Mono Lake, the Equatorial Pacific, CA Borderland, San Francisco Bay and several geothermal systems.
Dr. Hammond focuses on biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nutrients in aqueous systems, the transport of solutes, particles, and pollutants in aqueous environments, and diagenesis in sediments, and enjoys hiking when he can.
