Explore the north side of the San Gabriels in the Devil’s Punchbowl Natural Area! We’ll be hiking in an area with unique geology carved out by the San Andreas and Punchbowl faults, one of the most seismically active areas of the world. For about 7.5 miles, we’ll be chillen in what might as well be Mars. The Devil’s Chair will blow you away, and we’ll have to stop and soak it in all— what better way to do this than with Reverend Jim Burklo, senior associate of Religious Life at USC. He’s an avid hiker, an avid meditator, and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.
Reverend Jim Burklo is the Senior Associate Dean of Religious Life at the University of Southern California, he serves on the board of directors of Progressive Christians Uniting and is the author of six books. He’s the leader of several on-campus initiatives, and also leads students on an alternative spring break called “Conocimiento”, where they travel to Arizona and focus on interfaith action for border justice. Ask Jim about his faith system Open Christianity, and how he connects to nature and environmentalism.
