Surfer's Point w/ Surfrider Foundation (Peaks & Professionals)

  • Shoreline Drive Ventura, CA, 93001 United States (map)

**Trip fee includes surf board rental, wetsuit and surfing lesson @ Surfer's Point!**

Join Peaks & Professors in our second edition of Peaks & Professionals, where we invite a successful professional who has made a passion for nature and outdoors an integral part of his or her career. This Peaks & Professionals adventure will include surfing lessons & life guidance in one fantastic trip. We'll start the day in Ventura at the Surfrider Foundation, an organization with a mission to ensure clean water, healthy ocean and coastlines and accessible beaches for all to enjoy by finding lasting solutions to the threats our ocean faces. Bill Hickman, the Southern California Regional Manager of the Surfrider Foundation, will join us and tell us about how he has turned his passion for surfing and the ocean into a meaningful career.

We will assist Surfrider with a dune clean-up for two hours before we start our surf lesson. Boards, wetsuits and a 1-hour instructional lesson from Makos Surf Camp (with a special Peaks group discount) will be included in your trip fee. After the surf lesson and dune clean-up, we'll head back to LA with sand between our toes and inspiration in our hearts! This is truly a once-in-college experience to learn how to surf and hear from an inspiring organization - don't miss your chance to snag a spot on the surfing expedition of the year.

Bill Hickman's story:

"As ‘Southern California Regional Manager, I am excited to help chapters in the region tackle pollution issues that are affecting the marine environment. I grew up on the East Coast and was fortunate to have grandparents who lived near the beach in Delaware. At the age of six, I wanted to be like my big brother so I ‘borrowed’ his surfboard at every chance and caught the surfing bug early on. All my early memories are of clean beaches but later in high school and through college I started to see and feel the impact of litter and pollution.

When I moved to California after college I wanted to volunteer for an environmental organization and Surfrider was a perfect fit. After years of volunteering, I applied for a job with the San Diego chapter where I worked for over five years followed by a couple of years as the Rise Above Plastics program coordinator and now I am stoked to be helping Surfrider chapters in Souther California fulfill the mission. Surfrider is an easy place to get involved and make a positive impact to protect our coasts, so I encourage you to help out with your local chapter and make a difference!"
