Dawn Mine w/ Andy Rutkowski {Libraries}

Join Lily and Andy for a 5.6 mile hike to Dawn Mine, located deep in Millard Canyon. We’ll cross some streams and go through the forest in search of an old mine and water pump. Will we find it? You’ll have to join us to find out!

PACKING LIST:

  • Water and snacks!

  • WAIVERS

  • Sun protection: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses

  • Raincoat (if rain is on the forecast)

  • Comfortable walking shoes and clothes

Curious to learn more about what sits in the Library for International and Public Affairs? Andy Rutkowski is your guy! Andy is currently the acting head of the LIPA, with a wealth of knowledge on the resources there. Specifically, Andy’s subject area expertise is in the spatial sciences, social sciences data, urban planning, and so much more! Andy has also taught electives in the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, particularly relating to data visualization.

5.6 miles, 1,600 ft of climbing

SCENERY: Old mine shaft, old water pump, old rocks, old trees, lots of fun stuff!

Fun Fact: Now a fascinating historical resource, the mine was a successful operation in the first half of the 20th century.
