Few know that March 26 is International Wear A Hat Day. Celebrate the holiday in style by donning your favorite cap (and sunscreen) and join Peaks and Professors on the trail in the Santa Monica Mountains. We will be joined by marine biologist Dr. Jed Fuhrman on a hike to Eagle Rock from Trippet Ranch, with a loop up the fire road and the return on Musch Trail. Elevation gain will be a moderate 900 feet but be prepared to elevate your understanding of marine viruses and microorganisms exponentially.

PROFESSOR: Jed Furhman

DEPARTMENT: Biology

RATE MY PROFESSOR: “This man literally discovered a new kind of archaea

Professor Fuhrman researches the roles of microorganisms in natural marine ecosystems and the cycling of matter in the ocean, from the microscopic scale to the global scale. His research aims to improve our understanding of the structure and function of marine microbial systems, including viruses, bacteria, archaea and protists, through field measurements, laboratory studies, and modeling.

PEAK: EAGLE ROCK
