Sequoia National Forest w/ Dan Dworkis {Emergency Medicine}


TRIP DESCRIPTION:

Ready for a weekend trip to the forest to break up the mid-semester grind? Then this is the trip for you! Join us for two days filled with hiking, exploring and taking in the early season views in one of the most beautiful places in SoCal. Plus, get a crash course in first-aid/wilderness medicine from USC professor Dr. Dan Dworkis—what more could you ask for?

PACKING LIST:

  • Sleeping pad/sleeping bag (if you don’t have these let us know right away and we’ll help get you them!)

  • Water

  • Hiking boots

  • Warm clothes

  • Mess kit/utensils to eat food with

  • More detailed packing list provided upon sign-up!

WE WILL PROVIDE:

  • Tents

  • Food

  • Transportation

  • We can help with other gear too if needed!

SCENERY: Lots of cool sequoia trees, mountains and awesome views!

FUN FACT: Even though Redwoods are the tallest, Giant Sequoias are the world’s largest trees!

PROFESSOR: DAN DWORKIS

DEPARTMENT: Keck School of Medicine

Dr. Dan Dworkis PhD is a certified Emergency Physician, Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at USC, and the founder of The Lever Institute—a research institute that operates at the intersection of population health and emergency medicine. After his residency at Harvard’s medical school, he worked in emergency medicine in Haiti, and has done research on the opioid crisis, disparities in health care access and lots of other cool emergency medicine things. On the trip, he’ll be sharing wilderness medicine/survival tips, and maybe even some of his many near-death encounters!
