PEAK: ANTELOPE VALLEY CALIFORNIA POPPY RESERVE

DIFFICULTY: 3/5

SCENERY: Wildflowers, wildflowers, and more wildflowers :)

FUN FACT: The California Poppy became the California State Flower in 1903 and the Antelope Valley Preserve is the best place to see it! Check it out: here

Dr. Ashley Karlin is an Assistant (Teaching) Professor in the Writing Program holding an impressive résumé. She holds a PhD in Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon, where she wrote a dissertation that “analyzed an increasingly popular series of dialogues between Buddhist contemplatives and Western research scientists that has developed, over the past 50 years, into a full-fledged public conversation”. Honestly, is there anything more out there than tying Buddhism to science? Challenge Dr. Karlin to a debate (hello PhD in rhetoric?)! She currently teaches Health Sciences and Global Health sections of the Writing 340 course, as well as the Writing Global Health in Haiti, which she created and directs. When not in the classroom, Dr. Karlin studies the benefits of incorporating writing prompts into traditionally “writing-less” STEM courses.
