Get ready to explore this delightfully diverse trail with experienced hiker and history professor Richard Fox! The trail rises up through four different plant communities and traverses across mountain ridges with beautiful ocean views and grasslands (hopefully!) filled with wildflowers! After our hike, we can descend to the beach and take a much-needed dip in the ocean.
Peak: Nicholas Flat Trail at Leo Carillo State Park
Difficulty: 3.5
Scenery: Outlooks to the ocean, grassy meadows, and even a small pond!
Fun Fact: Because the trail is so close to the ocean, depending on the time of day, we might be hiking in a "phantom sea" of fog!
Professor: Richard Fox
Professor Fox seems to like exploring trees, but is also a tree himself! He received a B.A, M.A, and Ph.D. in History from Stanford University, yet somehow still found himself in the land of Trojans (fight on!!). Professor Fox is especially intrigued by the intermingling of religiosity and secularity in the United States, so I'm sure you can imagine how powerful and interesting the conversations on this trip will be! If that's not enough, maybe you can read one of the 8 books he's written (yes, even more books than the original Harry Potter Series). Professor Fox is excited to meet all of you and get the conversation flowin' in nature!
